  SUMMARY OF CONSULTANCY ACTIVITIES

  • Climate Change Risk Assessment & screening: Identification of climate change related risks and adaptation needs at strategic level  for UNDP's Thematic Areas on Adaptation; development of methodology and participation in country selection process for World Bank Pilot Programme on Climate Resilience); climate change screening of UN Country Programme for Cape Verde; risk assessment at project development stage for various UNDP-funded adaptation projects; climate change risk assessment for Red Sea - Dead Sea water conveyor feasibility study (Coyne & Bellier / Workd Bank).

  • Strategic Guidance for Adaptation: Guidance on integration of climate change and adaptation into development activities (e.g. UNDP Quality Standards for Adaptation), adaptation project development (UNDP Adaptation Policy Frameworks).

  • Adaptation Project Development: Regional level (coastal adaptation in West Africa - UNDP) & national level (adaptation of coastal zone in Mauritius - UNDP).

  • Provision of Training: Organisation of three climate change training courses for DFID, covering climate science, impacts, adaptation, mitigation, economics; major role in provision of training for UEA School of Development Studies & Overseas Development Group's 2-week Climate Change and Development courses, held in September 2008 and September 2009; provision of numerous seminars to UNDP staff on various aspects of climate change. 

  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Development M&E frameworks (e.g. UNDP's M&E Framework for Adaptation), and indicators of (e.g of vulnerability & adaptive capacity at national level for Tyndall Centre research project, adaptation project outcome indicators for UNDP).

  • Reviews and Discussion Papers: Including papers on sea-level rise for German Advisory Council on Global Change, rainfall variability in the Sahel for ESRC, state-of-the-art of climate change science for Tyndall Centre, climate "stabilisation" and "dangerous" climate change for DEFRA, climate change and pastoralism for IUCN
