The
Western Sahara Project is funded from a variety of sources, detailed
below. Ophir Energy Company Limited. Ophir is majority African-owned oil and gas exploration and production company, which has signed an agreement with the SADR regarding future oil and gas exploration in the event that Western Sahara achieves full independence. Ophir has made substantial contributions to the Project since 2005, providing full funding for spring field seasons and significant financial support to a nunber of autumn field seasons. Paying Volunteers The contributions of paying, non-specialist volunteers cover a significant proportion (in some cases the majority) of the costs of running fields seasons focusing on reconnaissance and environmental survey work, which generally take place in the autumn (October-December). Anyone interested in participating as a volunteer should contact Nick Brooks. British Academy & University of Edinburgh The first season of fieldwork, which took place in September and October 2002, was funded principally by a British Academy Small Research Grant, with additional funding from the University of Edinburgh in the form of a Tweedie Exploration Fellowship. Additional financial support for the Project has been provided in the form of personal or institutional contributions to the travel expenses of individual participants. |
